Newborns

Adding a new family member is one of the biggest milestones your family will experience.

The sleepless nights, the firsts of everything, the adjustment for everyone in the house, and although sometimes it feels like you'll never sleep or get a minute to yourself, this time goes by in the blink of an eye.

The newborn session aims to capture your beautiful baby as well as your new family during this moment in time. The session will focus on your new baby, their sweet little features, but also the rest of your family and the new bonds that are forming. About half of the newborn session is spent with just your newborn, and the other with your entire family, siblings, etc. This can of course be adjusted for each family's preference.

Are you getting ready to welcome a new little one? I would love to chat and answer any questions you have about the sessions! Erin @ southshorestudiosma@gmail.com

Additional Information About the Newborn Session

When should my session take place?

The session is best done when your baby is 1 to 2 weeks old - Newborns are typically calmer and sleepier during this time. If you are not able to come in during this time, we will try for some sweet posed photos, but your gallery will likely lean more towards candid photos and beautiful photos with parent(s) or sibling(s). If you are unsure what this will look like I can send over some samples!

Where will the session take place?

Your session can take place at my in home studio located on the South Shore, or in your home. Please note that my studio is on the second floor -  let me know if you have any mobility issues so that we can make accommodations.

How to prepare for your session:
In Studio: Bring along any items you’d like photographed with baby. If baby is bottle fed, bring an extra bottle just in case. No need to adjust your infant’s sleep/eating schedule (as if they have one!) for the session.
In Home Session: You do not need to do anything special to prepare your home. As long as you have windows we will find some great spots. Removing clutter is great, but your home does not need to be spotless, so don’t’ go crazy! I won’t be photographing behind the couches! Plus, if you have siblings involved, having their toys out for them to play with will help keep them busy when they are not in the photos.

What should We wear? What should siblings wear?
The simpler the better. Neutral colors are always great. Wear whatever you are comfortable in. Tank tops and short sleeve shirts are nice for photos of parents holding the baby, showing some skin to skin contact.

What should my baby wear?

Baby clothes are adorable! But they don’t’ always show that way in images because of the position a newborn is usually in. If you have outfits that you absolutely love you are welcome to bring them, but typically wraps, blankets, and naked are the best bet for a newborn. Headbands or other accessories can be a great way to add in some color.

What types of images will be taken?
My focus is on your baby and your family. A typical session will be photos of your newborn in ~2 posed spots (think comfy baskets or similar), photos with sibling(s) in 1-2 locations/poses (if applicable), photos with entire family, and then some beautiful candid shots with parents and family, as well as detail shots of your baby (hands, feet, features, etc.) If you have seen images of newborns you are in love with, please send away. It will give me an idea of images that appeal to you. I love hearing your session ideas!

How long will the session take?
Newborn sessions are typically 1-3 hours long. This will include enough time for some posed newborn images, photos with parents, and photos with siblings/pets etc. Session times vary because newborns will often need several breaks for changing, feeding, and soothing.

Do I need to provide props?
You don’t need to provide anything but are more than welcome to bring any items that are special/sentimental to be included in the photos. Sometimes parents received a special gift for baby, or a special stuffed animal. Any items can be included but none are necessary. I will bring some baskets, blankets, and anything else we may have discussed prior to the session.

When is payment due?
Half of your payment is due at the session, and the second half is due at the delivery of images.

When will my images be ready and how will I view them?
Your images will be ready within 2 weeks of your session. (Up to 3 weeks during November and December) Once complete, you will receive a link to an online album where you can select your images, view, share, download high resolution images, or print. If you choose to purchase additional images beyond the 15 included you can do so directly through the gallery as well.
